Last year, Perry Hall’s boy’s varsity soccer won the state championship and brought home the metaphorical gold, but among the school’s graduating seniors was Colin Weyant, an integral part of the team.
In his wake is freshman Gavin Weyant, his younger brother. Already on the team, he has been given some lofty expectations and a legacy to fulfill.
“Yeah, for soccer since my brother did so well, some people suspect me to be up to his level,” Gavin Weyant said.
He isn’t without help, however. Colin, now a college freshman, acts as a mentor, giving Gavin tips on how to improve his game. This will give Gavin an easier time acclimating to the high school soccer environment, and the expectations he has been given.
With the team looking to repeat championships, Gavin thinks the team is in a good spot.
“The soccer team is fine, there could be some tweaks, the loss of Colin will hurt though,” Gavin Weyant said.
